Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter spoke in support of Brooklyn Beckham after his bombshell statement as he opened up about removing himself from the Beckham family.

With feud rumours circulating around the Beckham family over the last year, David and Victoria Beckham’s eldest son Brooklyn broke his silence on Instagram with a long message detailing why he’s removed himself from the family.

The statement read: “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always come out.”

He went onto defend his wife Nicola Peltz, denying rumours that she has been controlling him, as he added that since stepping away from his family his anxiety has disappeared.

Since his bombshell statement, the internet has been overloaded with opinion pieces and reactions to the news, and the Loose Women panel decided to take on the subject matter at the very start of their show.

Loose Women presenter Janet Street-Porter defended Brooklyn’s decision to post his family grievances online as she asked to “cut him some slack”.

During Tuesday’s (January 20) episode, Kaye Adams asked Janet her thoughts on the situation. She responded: “I was riveted by Brooklyn’s message last night. I was thinking, this took a very, very long time to write and it was very articulate.

“It listed a far more grievances than I was expecting. I thought the thing about the dress, well, I could see in the run up to a wedding everything will be very fraught. The dress is always the big thing.

“What I would say is, behind it all, one senses a young man who just wants to be his own person and lead his own life…. David and Victoria are all about a brand, and that brand has got to be untainted and that’s how they run their life.”

Janet then went onto call out their “brand” as she added: “I sometimes wish, for a day, when we weren’t on planet Beckham. We’ve had Beckham and the chickens, Beckham and the honey, Beckham in the wellingtons, Beckham in the countryside and now Beckham with the top world economists.”

She continued: “He wants his own brand. Interestingly, he’s done his little bits of cooking and this, that and the other, he hasn’t found himself yet. He’s very young for his age, he’s 26 but seems younger to me. So I think, cut him a bit of slack, you know? Give him some time to himself.”

Motsi Mabuse agreed and said: “I think it’s incredibly brave that he’s speaking against his mother, and also supporting his wife, because many people don’t do that, they just let it happen. But also, I think it’s such a sad situation because it’s a family out in the public.”
