“WHAT BGT DIDN’T SHOW — THE 9-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO CAUSED A SENSATION WITH HIS GRANDFATHER DUET, AND THE SHOCKING LIFE BEHIND THE STAGE!” Lucciano Mortimore set Britain’s Got Talent ablaze with his emotional duet with his grandfather, but what few knew was a much more extraordinary story behind that moment. His mother revealed that during summer holidays, Lucciano didn’t just play like other children — he spent his time singing in nursing homes and hospices, bringing music to those most in need of healing. It was from these small stages that the 9-year-old boy gradually developed an emotional voice and a special connection with the audience — to the point of receiving an unexpected message of encouragement from Robbie Williams. A journey behind the spotlight… that BGT cannot fully recount.

The mother of Lucciano, 9, the young performer who recently stunned audiences on Britain’s Got Talent with a surprise duet alongside his grandfather Frankie, has shared new insight into his early passion for music, revealing that he spent his summer holidays singing in care homes and hospices across the South West, where his talent even earned praise from Robbie Williams.

Lucciano Mortimore has become known for bringing warmth and joy to elderly residents through regular performances, a tradition he has continued for several years. According to his family, those visits have shaped not only his confidence on stage but also his love for connecting with audiences through music.

Speaking about his performances during visits to places such as Avon Valley Care Home, Lucciano previously said he enjoys seeing residents smile and clap along, explaining that his goal is simply “to make them happy.” His mother, Marisa Mortimore, who was a finalist on The X Factor in 2008, said the response from audiences has often been deeply emotional.

“Some of the residents even cry because they’re so overwhelmed,” she said. “It takes them back to when they were much younger. The songs he sings are so relevant for their age group, it’s really special.”

Lucciano’s grandfather Frankie Johns, who regularly performs in care homes himself, has also played a major role in inspiring his journey. The pair’s close bond was recently showcased on Britain’s Got Talent, where Lucciano first appeared alone before inviting Frankie on stage for an emotional duet of History by One Direction. Their performance earned a standing ovation and four “yes” votes from the judges.

Frankie, visibly moved after the audition, said performing with his grandson was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, while judge Simon Cowell described the performance as a powerful example of love on stage.

Beyond television, Lucciano’s care home performances have continued to attract attention online, with one of his earlier clips of him singing That’s Life going viral and reaching millions of views. The performances have drawn praise from residents, families, and viewers alike for their emotional impact and uplifting energy.

In a heartfelt message shared by the family, Lucciano also received encouragement from Robbie Williams, who praised the young singer’s dedication and kindness:

“Hello mate, what a wonderful young man you are. And what important work you’re doing. You are being of service and the world needs way more you’s. Try and take the essence of what you are doing into your adult life. Don’t let anybody or anything take it away from you. Thank you for putting a smile on my face and reminding me what’s important. I’m proud of you, my little friend. Rob x”

With growing recognition both online and on national television, Lucciano’s journey continues to be defined not just by his voice, but by the joy he brings to audiences far beyond the stage.
