David Platt’s iconic journey on Coronation Street could reach a heartbreaking end in devastating scenes.
Coronation Street’s Jack P.Shepherd has teased his legendary stint on the Cobbles may soon come to an end. The soap star has played David Platt on the Cobbles for the past 25 years.
The 37-year-old continues to be at the centre of the action and will be involved in dramatic scenes tonight when he is hit by a car. David has been involved in some shady business lately as he found himself in debt to gangster Harvey Gaskell.
The situation has left him scrambling as he desperately tries to raise the funds to pay him back. In tonight’s episode, which is available to watch on ITVX, David will be drowning his sorrows in the Rovers Return as he tries to figure out how to escape his woes.
Daisy Midgeley will be in the pub at the same time as Daniel Osbourne will quiz her on the true identity of her baby’s father. The character, played by Charlotte Jordan, will dash out the pub after the confrontation at the same time as David is seen stumbling out in the road.
Their lives are thrown into danger when they are both hit by a car in a hit and run. Jack appeared on today’s episode of This Morning and spilled it could be the end for his character.
He said: “I think it’s 25 years next month [I’ve been on the show]. It would have been nice to kind of reach that milestone but sadly, tonight’s the end. But I’ve loved every minute of it!”
Ben Shephard hosted today’s edition of ITV’s flagship daytime programme and was gobsmacked by the admission. However, Jack was revealing nothing about his character’s true fate, adding; “I’ve loved my time here, loved the character and yeah it’s a really special episode!
“I think we did something similar when Kylie died, I don’t think the audience were expecting that till I came on This Morning and said the character sort of dies.” Shona Platt is one of the first characters on the scene after the hit and run incident.
Speaking to the ECHO and other press, she explained what it was like filming the bloody scenes as she said, from Shona’s perspective, her onscreen husband has died. She said: “[For Shona] he’s dead. He’s going to bleed to death.”
A flashforward scene will show David being rushed to hospital and treated by medics after the car incident. Julia explained she loves appearing in big stunts such as this as she explained the process of filming the scene. She said: “There was a lot of blood. Jack was on the floor for a couple of days and we were both covered in this sticky, syrupy blood. I think we wore quite dark clothing as well to not upset compliance.”
The 39-year-old added: “We have a fantastic gang with all the actors and the crew. You’re switching from really serious stuff and then absolutely side splitting laughing when the cameras aren’t rolling.”
Julia remained tight lipped on if her husband will recover from the incident as she revealed her character’s dramatic time will continue. She said: “David’s going to be either dead or out of action. I can’t possibly say which. And with Max’s sentencing and everything, [Shona’s] putting out fires rather than being the fire.”
The impact of the hit and run is set to dominate future storylines in the show as detective Kit Green will investigate the crash as the Weatherfield residents are left praying that David and Daisy will pull through. Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV. Episodes are released on ITVX at 7am.
