Corrie Announces Exciting Collaboration with ITV’s Emmerdale – Kelvin and Liz Share the Big News!
Coronation Street has announced some ‘big soap news’ alongside a famous former Emmerdale star – and fans have been quick to react.
The ITV soap has revealed that it is joining forces with Emmerdale to launch a new ‘Vodcast’ – aka a video podcast. The new series, title ‘Off Script’, is set to be hosted by former favourite of the Dales Kelvin Fletcher and his actress wife Liz.
Confirming the news in a video shared to both Corrie and Emmerdale’s social media accounts, Liz is heard saying in a video: “Hey guys, we’ve got some exciting news. We are the new hosts of the brand new vodcast – which is a video podcast in case you didn’t know – of ‘Off Script: Coronation Street and Emmerdale’.”
She added: “We’re going to be talking all about soaps and to all of the actors.” Kelvin then went on to share: “Today we’ve got our first special guest, the fantastic Claire Sweeney,” before the camera showed the Cassie Plummer actress ready to get chatting.
Alongside the post, the announcement read: “Big Soap News! A brand new Vodcast, ‘Off Script’ is coming this Friday! Get ready to dive into all things Corrie and Emmerdale as @kelvin_fletcher & @liz_fletcher83 are joined by big star soap fans each week! It starts Friday 14th on YouTube, ITVX, STV Player or listen on Global Player or wherever you get your podcasts. #offscriptpod.”
And fans of both long-running shows were quick to respond. @gilliano130 said: “Will look forward to this.” @missl.2021 commented: “Brilliant. Enjoy celebrating all the success.” @victorianightx added: “GIVING THE CROWD WHO THEY WANT !!!”
Others, however, were distracted by Kelvin’s involvement, nine years after he left Emmerdale after playing the role of farmer Andy Sugden for 20 years.
But this isn’t the only reason Corrie and Emmerdale have had to join forces in recent months. In January they issued a joint statement after becoming increasingly aware of their fans being targeted by scam artists acting as a member of their respective cast members.
Taking to Facebook, Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, both ITV programmes shared a statement in which they have asked viewers and fans to ‘please be aware’ as they have spoken out on scammers using their stars’ identities online and informed them of the ‘legitimate’ way of meeting cast members of either soap.
“Please be aware that actor from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are currently being impersonated by scammers across all social media platforms,” the message started.
It went on to read: “No cast member will ever directly request money for messages, meetings, or any kind of personal interaction on social media. We are aware these sophisticated impersonations can include deep-fake footage (where it appears to be the actor talking but isn’t) and personal messages which seem to be realistic and in character.
“We urge everybody to be vigilant. Please report any concern to the relevant platform. The legitimate way of meeting with real members of the cast is via official ‘meet and greet’ events run by ITV Star Tours.”
Kelvin Fletcher RETURNS To TV With Channel 5 – BUT THIS TIME, IT’S NOT ACTING
For those Emmerdale fans out there who are still feeling the absence of Andy Sugden, good news! Kelvin Fletcher is returning to TV.
The Channel 5 show, which is set to air in April, will follow JLS star JB Gill living and working alongside three others on his very own farm.
JB will be joined by Kelvin, Countryfile‘s Adam Henson and Springwatch Unsprung host Lindsey Chapman, so it’s going to be a farming love-in.
Adam Henson has promised that the show will be a “real celebration” of farming that he hopes will capture the imagination of the viewing public.
While we’re on the subject of farms, it’s worth noting that this probably isn’t the last time we’ll see Kelvin rolling around in the hay, because the door to Emmerdale is always open.
Speaking to Digital Spy following his exit in 2016, Kelvin conceded that there’s still a possibility of him returning to play Andy, a character who he ‘loves’.
“If there’s a time in the future that Andy reappears as a man trying to prove his innocence, who knows? I’d leave any exciting future storylines in the capable hands of the talented producers, storylines and writers,” he told us.
“For me as an actor, I still feel like I could give more with the part of Andy and I always will.”
