All episodes of The Chosen Season 5 are now available on Prime Video in the United States, which naturally leads fans to start speculating about Season 6. Filming for the new season has already begun in the U.S., with the cast and crew returning after shooting the crucifixion scenes in Italy—the very location where Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ was filmed. Although much of Season 6 remains under wraps, there are already some insights into what viewers can expect, especially regarding the upcoming crucifixion episode, which is set to be a feature-length film released in U.S. theaters.
Season 5 concluded with a particularly intense final episode. The ending centers on Jesus and his disciples walking by torchlight into the walled garden of Gethsemane. Only Peter, James, and John accompany him inside, while the others remain outside. Once in the garden, Jesus expresses profound sorrow to John, admitting that he feels overwhelmed, even to the point of death. Peter offers to send for a doctor, but Jesus responds that he places himself in the hands of God, the “great physician.” He instructs the three apostles to stay awake and keep watch as he prays. Deep in the garden, leaning on a rock, Jesus pours out his heart, expressing fear and doubt, even saying, “I don’t think I can do this; you ask too much of me.” His plea soon shifts to a desperate call for strength.
In a striking vision, Jesus sees Abraham and Isaac preparing wood for a sacrifice. When Isaac asks about the lamb, Abraham reassures him, “God will provide,” a reference to God sparing Isaac in the biblical story. Inspired by this vision, Jesus prays again, surrendering to God’s will and saying, “Not my will, but yours be done.” Returning to the apostles, he finds them asleep and admonishes them, reminding them that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. He prays again, now accepting his path. A fog rolls in, and he finds himself in the valley of dry bones, face-to-face with the prophet Ezekiel. They embrace, and Jesus weeps. Later, he returns to find the apostles asleep once more but shows compassion, allowing them to rest. When he prays again, his hands tremble until someone touches his back—his stepfather Joseph, who assures him that he will be waiting. Finally, Jesus wakes Peter, James, and John, announcing, “The hour has come.”

At the gate, a mob with torches approaches, revealing Judas, who steps forward to betray Jesus with a kiss. Jesus responds, “My friend, do what you came to do.” This climactic moment concludes Season 5, leaving viewers both emotional and anticipating the continuation of the story. Many fans praised the incorporation of visions and dramatic elements, including the final, symbolic kiss of betrayal, which, although seemingly unnecessary, stayed faithful to the biblical narrative.
Looking ahead to Season 6, filming has already commenced in the United States, including scenes depicting Jesus’s arrest and his appearance before Pilate. The crucifixion scenes, however, were filmed in Italy, generating significant anticipation. Leaked images from the set, despite being low-quality, have already elicited emotional reactions from fans. During production, the cast also met the Pope before returning to the U.S. to continue filming, including a major trial scene based on Matthew 26:57, which depicts Jesus before the Sanhedrin. Reports suggest that Season 6 is the longest filming schedule since the show began.
The release strategy for Season 6 is somewhat different from previous seasons. It will include six standard episodes and, uniquely, a feature-length movie focusing solely on the crucifixion. The release dates for these two parts will differ. While the first six episodes are expected toward the end of 2026—likely premiering on Prime Video—the crucifixion movie is scheduled for theatrical release on March 12, 2027, as reported by Deadline. It remains uncertain if the six initial episodes will also eventually appear on The Chosen app or whether the app release will wait until after the theatrical debut of the crucifixion film.

Fans will have a chance to see more at the Chosen Con, the insiders’ conference scheduled for February 2026. Dallas Jenkins, the creator, indicated that he plans to showcase at least one full episode from Season 6, along with numerous scenes. A teaser or trailer is also anticipated during the event, offering fans a first glimpse of the upcoming season. Beyond Season 6, the series will continue with a miniseries centered on Joseph of Egypt, expanding the scope of The Chosen universe even further.
With Season 5 ending on such an emotionally charged note and Season 6 promising both new episodes and a theatrical experience, anticipation is high. Fans can look forward to a compelling continuation of the story, blending faithfulness to biblical accounts with cinematic storytelling that has defined The Chosen since its inception. The wait may be long, but the level of care in production and storytelling suggests that it will be well worth it, providing both a spiritual and dramatic experience for viewers.
