Rylan Clark is riding high on some exciting career news — and he’s not shy about sharing the love along the way. The BBC Radio 2 star was left in disbelief this week after learning he’s been nominated for a TV BAFTA.
On Thursday (March 27), Rylan and his close friend, TV personality Rob Rinder, were announced as nominees ahead of the upcoming BAFTA ceremony in May. The pair earned the nod for their BBC Two travel docuseries, Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour, which premiered last year.
The three-part series followed the duo as they explored Italy’s greatest art treasures in cities like Venice, Florence, and Rome, retracing the steps of 19th-century romantic poet Lord Byron and other legendary Grand Tourists.
Their show has been nominated in the Factual Entertainment category, competing against In Vogue: The 90s (Disney+), Race Across The World (BBC One), and Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out (BBC One).
After the announcement, Rylan posted a screenshot of the nominees on both X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, writing:
“Can’t believe I’m saying this, but we’re nominated for a @BAFTA. Thanks so much for watching .”
Rob Rinder responded with a heartfelt quote:
“There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.”
He then added: “Well done you clever, kind brilliant human.”
Rylan replied in his typically playful tone:
“Love you. You d***head.”
But the love didn’t stop there. On Friday (March 28), Rylan paid tribute to another famous friend — radio host Scott Mills — on his birthday. Sharing a beaming selfie of the two on his Instagram Story, he wrote to his 2.3 million followers:
“Happy birthday to the bestie @realscottmills. Can’t believe you’re 73… Drop the skincare routine. Love you the world. Hope Sam spoils you today.”
This burst of celebration comes after Rylan recently opened up about his own romantic struggles. During a Valentine’s Day segment on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, he sent a humorous video message to actress Renée Zellweger, star of Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, joking that he “doesn’t want to die a spinster.”
The 36-year-old, who divorced Dan Neal in 2021 after six years of marriage, said:
“You all right, Bridge? Listen, I need your help. I’m 36, I’ve done the marriage, I’ve done the divorce, I’ve done all the dating, I’ve met up with blokes, but I just don’t get it.
I’m still single. I’ve got my own hair – granted, not my own teeth – but we’ll get over that. I just need a bit of advice, babe. I don’t want to die a spinster.”
Renée responded with warmth and reassurance, suggesting that people might be “too intimidated” to approach Rylan because he’s “charming.”
She encouraged him: “You know, the right one’s gonna walk in. All these other ones who aren’t working out – clearly – thank goodness for a reason.”
