No Filter! Magic Johnson Reveals Who’s to Blame for Lakers’ L0ss to the Timberwolves

The first big surprise of the 2025 NBA Playoffs didn’t take long to arrive. The Los Angeles Lakers opened their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a loss — and Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson didn’t hesitate to point fingers and identify who was to blame for this early stumble.

Was it LeBron James or Luka Doncic? That mystery remained to be solved. The Lakers took the court at Crypto.com Arena with the advantage of starting the series at home against Anthony Edwards and company. They started strong, winning the first quarter 28–21, and a victory seemed within reach, but…

The Minnesota Timberwolves came alive in Game 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers, building up a lead as large as 27 points. With four players scoring in double digits, they secured a dominant 117–95 victory — and of course, Magic Johnson had something to say about it.

“The Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the Lakers in every category, winning 117–95 tonight (April 19),” Johnson posted on X. “They were more physical, more athletic, quicker, and got every loose ball. Edwards was solid with 22 points, but it was Jaden McDaniels’ offense and defense that made the difference. He finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds.”

But the spiciest part was yet to come…

Even though LeBron James scored 19 points and Luka Doncic had only one assist, Magic Johnson didn’t blame them for the Lakers’ first loss against the Timberwolves. So, who did he point the finger at?
“Coach JJ Redick did a great job all season, but he didn’t do a good job in Game 1. The Lakers’ offense became stagnant, they played too much one-on-one basketball, and he didn’t make the necessary adjustments,” said the Lakers legend on X.

When is Game 2: Lakers vs. Timberwolves – NBA Playoffs?

After losing the home-court advantage in the opening round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Lakers will face increased pressure to bounce back in Game 2 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 at 10:00 PM ET at Crypto.com Arena.
