Coronation Street extra episode to air tonight in ITV schedule shake-up

Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will air tonight to make up for missing episodes

Coronation Street will air an additional episode tonight on ITV1. The soap usually airs on weekdays at 8.30pm, so it may come as a surprise to some fans that an extra episode has been added to the schedule tonight (Sunday, April 12).

The soap will air at the earlier time of 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITX, as it follows Emmerdale which has also added an episode at 7pm on the same channel. The schedule change comes as both soaps have been cancelled next week. Neither Coronation Street nor Emmerdale will air on Tuesday, April 14 due to football coverage on ITV.

The Women’s European Qualifier kicks off at 7.30pm. Coverage begins at 6.30pm live from Wembley Stadium, and is expected to end at 9.10pm. This means both soaps have been taken off their usual schedule.

It isn’t the first time this has happened, as both soaps also aired last Sunday, and the previous Sunday after cancellations earlier in the week.

The description for Sunday’s (April 12) extra episode said: “Summer quizzes Theo about Billy’s final moments, Christina attempts to stop George from selling his business, and Roy’s presence is undetected as the café goes up in smoke.”

The schedule shake-up comes at a critical time in both soaps, but particularly for the people of Weatherfield.

A harrowing storyline has taken over the soap for the last 12 months. Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) fell victim to terrifying domestic abuse from his partner Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).

We’ve watched the story develop from the very beginning, when Todd fell head over heels for the new builder on the street.

Next week, the worrying story will finally come to an end with a special standalone episode scheduled for Wednesday (April 15).

Coronation Street spoilers have confirmed an end is in sight as Todd finally stands up against Theo. He reports him for assault and opens up about the months of abuse to Lisa and Kit.

Meanwhile, Theo knows his time is up and is desperate to flee Weatherfield. But as news of his violent controlling behaviour spreads, is it too late for him to escape?

Elsewhere, Summer remains suspicious about who is really responsible for Billy’s death as she questions if Theo is to blame.
