ITV daytime show This Morning released a tragic statement after the death of one of its stars at the age of just 54. In a new post on social media, the official This Morning Instagram account said the crew are “deeply saddened” to have lost one of its stars, with a spokesperson saying “she will be much missed”.

Married at First Sight expert Mel Schilling – who sadly died this week – appeared on This Morning as a relationship expert, and now ITV has said: “We’re deeply saddened to hear about the passing of relationship coach Mel Schilling, who appeared on This Morning many times and gave brilliant advice to viewers in our phone-ins.

“All of us at This Morning send our love and deepest condolences to Mel’s family. She will be much missed.”

Also included in the post was the statement Mel’s husband Gareth wrote, announcing her death this morning.

Gareth said: “To most of you, she was Mel Schilling – matriarch of MAFs and queen of reality TV. To Maddie and me, she was our wee Melsie: an incredible mum, role model and soulmate.

“On behalf of our family and her incredible friendship group, thank you for the support from around the world.

“Life can be beautiful and life can be incredibly cruel. But ultimately, life is fleeting, fragile and tomorrow is promised to no one. If you can do anything to honour Mel, please live life to the full, love your people well and try not to sweat the small stuff.”

Other This Morning stars chimed in to share their condolences, with Dr Nighat Arif writing: “The deepest of condolences to Mel’s family and friends – she was an utter legend. RIP queen.”

Her MAFS co-star Charlene Douglas added: “Rest in peace Mel. We love you.”
